The Future of Social Media
Last year’s controversial Future of Media Keynote Panel drew much attention inside the conference and beyond. Examples of how content creators and distributors will be able drive profits by giving their product away for free, predictions that companies like Bell and Rogers would become utilities with gaming systems like Xbox and Playstation taking charge, and a compromise that the demise of the radio would come with inexpensive wireless service within the car all led the conversation. Most importantly, and perhaps most surprising, was that a quick audience poll of companies revealed delegates would drop traditional media before digital media. Does this universal agreement among agencies, brands, and software providers, along with the increasing allocation of marketing budgets to digital and social media, represents a true“paradigm shift”?
